Nano violet tungsten oxide powder may be used to produce thermal insulation coating. Violet tungsten oxide can also be used in spray drying-direct carbonization to prepare nano grain size WC-Co composite powder. The WC-Co composite powder prepared by hydrogen reduction at 950°C has narrow particle size distribution, fine grain size, particle size of 5~45μm and average particle size of 23.38μm. And the obtained nano grain size composite powder has pure phase with no η phase.
The precursor powder was prepared by spray drying with a particle size of 10~100μm and an average particle size of 50μm. As can be seen from the scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray micro-analysis (EDS) and elemental surface distribution image, W, Co, and C are evenly distributed, and the Co phase is uniformly coated around the WC grains without segregation of components. And SEM and BET indicate that the grain size of WC is about 300nm.
