Nanometer violet tungsten oxide may be applied in thermal insulating glass, such as sun room, exhibition hall, villa, office building, car, cruise ship, and airplane, etc. Violet tungsten oxide can also be used for preparing ultrafine tungsten carbide powder.
In order to prepare ultrafine tungsten carbide powder with excellent performance, some scholars selected violet tungsten oxide and blue tungsten oxide as raw materials, studied the process of preparing tungsten powder by reduction of violet tungsten oxide and producing tungsten carbide powder by carbonization of tungsten powder, and analyzed the two raw materials, including the properties and microstructure of the prepared ultrafine tungsten powder and tungsten carbide powder. The results show that, by adopting the traditional method, violet tungsten oxide is suitable for the preparation of ultrafine tungsten powder and tungsten carbide powder as the W powder and WC powder prepared using violet tungsten oxide as raw material has better physical properties than that of blue tungsten oxide.
